In life—and especially in business—there are moments when everything just clicks. The right opportunity, the right timing, the right people. It feels like the universe gave you a nod and whispered, “This is it.” That’s what we mean when we say the stars are aligned.
But how do you know when things are truly aligned? Not just on the surface, but deeply and genuinely?
Start with values.
Are your values aligned with who you work for, who you do business with, and who you buy from?
If not, it might be time for a values stocktake.
We often hear companies talk about culture, integrity, and purpose. But do their actions match their words? Do your employees know your organisation’s values? Do they believe in them? Are those values being used in day-to-day decision-making—or are they just words on a poster in the lunchroom?
Then there’s the most personal alignment of all:
Do you know your why?
What drives you? What gives your work meaning? And just as importantly—do you know your company’s or employer’s why? Are you aligned with it?
If you don’t know your why, I highly recommend checking out one of my favourite videos by Simon Sinek—a trained ethnographer, writer, consultant, and public speaker—who talks about the power of Why: the purpose, cause, or belief that drives every one of us.
In his TED Talk, “Start with Why,” Simon introduces the concept of the Golden Circle—a way of thinking, acting, and communicating from the inside out. His message is simple but profound:
If everyone knew why they do what they do, and if everyone only did the things that inspired them—what an amazing place the world would be.
I couldn’t agree more.
When your personal values, your organisation’s mission, and your daily actions all point in the same direction—that’s when the stars align. That’s when work becomes meaningful, and business becomes more than just transactions.
So, maybe now’s the time to pause and reflect:
Are the stars aligned where I am right now?
Do I feel connected to something bigger than a job title or paycheck?
Am I working in a way that reflects who I truly am?
And if the answer is no—that’s okay. Stars realign all the time. You just have to be willing to look up and make a change.
